Friday, October 1, 2021 - Senator Breanne Davis speaks at the Russellville Chamber of Commerce's First Friday Breakfast and gives an update on congressional redistricting. "I want Pope County to have a strong voice in choosing where we wind up," Davis said. Senator Davis is on the Senate's Governmental Affairs Committee, which is working to redistrict the state based on the 2020 Census data.
Pope County is currently in the 3rd congressional district which includes Washington and Benton counties in northwest Arkansas. Due to the amount of growth in the 2nd and 3rd districts over the past 10 years, Pope County is not likely to remain in the 3rd district, represented by U.S. Rep. Steve Womack. The question now is which district will Pope County be assigned to---the 2nd which includes central Arkansas counties and is represented by U.S. Rep. French Hill, or the 4th which includes the entire southwest portion of the state and is represented by U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman.
"I think Pope County belongs in the 2nd district," Davis said. "We have a lot more in common with those communities than we do with south Arkansas."
